BRUNSWICK – Donald R. Brown, 62, of Durham, died Thursday, Aug. 14, at Mid Coast Hospital.
He was born in Lewiston, on April 9, 1946, the son of Robert W. and Vivian L. Larrabee Brown. He attended Durham schools and graduated from Edward Little High School.
He became a fireman at age 15 for the Durham Fire Department and served as its chief from 1973 to 1993. For the past 24 years, he worked at Bowdoin College in the heating and plumbing department and served as mechanical services superviser.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and cooking them breakfast, as well as fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending summers camping at Two Lakes Campground in Oxford, where he enjoyed riding around in his golf cart, playing bingo, cribbage and “Pass the Buck.” He also served one term as a selectman for the town of Durham.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Penny Blackie Brown of Durham; two sons, Robert J. Brown of Durham and Donald W. Brown and his wife, Kathy, of Durham; two daughters, Tammy L. Bard and her husband, Stephen, of Lisbon Falls and Carol A. Brown of Durham; and 11 grandchildren, Teresa Brown, Robby Brown, Justiss Brown, Christopher Brown, Brian Brown, Matthieu Brown, Jacob Snyder, Tyler and Alesha Bard and Casey and Tristin Ridlon.
