PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – Thousands of people are expected to visit two tall ships docked at the New Hampshire state pier this weekend.

Organizers got off to a good start Friday when more than 200 people lined up before the gates even opened to welcome the Friendship of Salem and the schooner Roseway.

The Friendship, a fully-rigged 171-foot replica of a 1700s New England East Indiaman trader vessel, is making its second visit to Portsmouth in the past four years and is one the tallest ships to visit the city. The Roseway is an authentic 137-foot 1925 Grand Banks schooner.

In addition to the tall ships, the Portsmouth gundalow and Portsmouth Fire Boat will be docked at the state pier and available for tours.
