BRUNSWICK (AP) – After a two-year construction project and some public debate, a southern Maine boat launch is being formally opened by Maine fish and game officials.

Commissioner Roland “Danny” Martin of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife was to join other state and local officials Monday for the opening of the Mere Point Boat Launch in Brunswick.

The launch will provide public deep water access in northern Casco Bay, which has been unavailable to Maine residents who don’t have their own deep water frontage.

The location of overhead power lines was a major hurdle to completion of the project. The power company decided to bury the lines.
