NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)- New Haven police say they have recovered the car involved in the hit-and-run death of a spectator during a weekend drag race.

Police say the drag racer on Long Wharf Drive early Sunday was speeding back to the starting line when he swerved toward spectators, hitting and killing a man on the edge of the crowd. He also injured another spectator.

The drag racer fled the scene after hitting the two victims. A few hours after the crash, police say the owner of the car involved tried to report the car stolen.

Police say the car was recovered in West Haven and police have been questioning the owner.
