AUBURN – Roger “Pop” T. Gilbert, 73, of 43 Chadbourne Road, Lewiston, died Monday, Aug. 18, at the Androscoggin Home Care Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on April 25, 1935, the son of Francis and Eva (Nadeau) Gilbert and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was employed as a spray painter for Bath Iron Works until his retirement.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12652 of Holy Cross. He enjoyed bass fishing, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jeannette Joyce Bard, whom he married on June 24, 1967 of Lewiston; three daughters, Tina M. Saucier and her husband, Brian, of Auburn, Lisa M. Ridley and her husband, Ronald Jr., of Litchfield and Michelle L. Gilbert of Lewiston; one brother, Robert Gilbert and his wife, Vernita, of Nevada; two sisters, Irene Pelletier of Lisbon and Jeannette Caron of Auburn; five grandchildren, Marc Leclair, Matthew Saucier, Ridge Ridley and Kimberly and Savanna Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Modarressi and his staff as well as the staff at Montello Manor and the Hospice House for the tremendous care they have given to Roger throughout his illness.
