PERU – Norman W. LaPlante, 80, a resident of Auburn Road in Peru, died Friday, Aug. 22, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 30, 1928, in Rumford, the son of Alphonse and Aldea (Michaud) LaPlante and attended Livermore Falls High School.

On Jan. 1, 1949, he married Theresa Litalien at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for 38 years. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John’s Church in Rumford. He was a member of the Amvets, Lane-Dube Post 33 of Jay, VFW, Frank L. Mitchell, Post 3335 of Jay and the American Legion, George Bunten, Post 10 of Livermore Falls and the Quarter Century Club of Boise Cascade Paper Co.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa of Peru; a daughter, Sally A. Hanson and her husband, Lee, of Peru; a son, Roger Norman LaPlante of Topsham; three grandchildren, Nicholas LaPlante, Kristina LaPlante and Tracee Hanson; brothers, Wilfred LaPlante and his wife, Suzuko, of Livermore Falls, Emile LaPlante and his wife, Caroline, of Ocala, Fla., Raoul LaPlante and his wife, Marcia, of Livermore Falls and Robert LaPlante and his wife, Madelyn, of Livermore Falls; three sisters, Gertrude Richard and her husband, Reginald, of Livermore, Pauline LaPlante of Jay and Olivette Gallant of Jay.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Rene LaPlante; and two sisters, Antoinette Norris and Beatrice Watt.
