I recently saw an ad in which Sen. Susan Collins said she wanted Democrats and Republicans to come together and get things done.

Unfortunately, for stroke victims, drug-endangered children and victims of child pornography, Collins doesn’t mean what she says.

Before Congress adjourned, the Senate voted on a package of 35 bipartisan bills being blocked by a single Republican senator. Following the Republican Party’s orders, Collins voted against the bills to prevent Democrats from adding to their list of accomplishments.

Some of the bills were the Torture Victims Relief Reauthorization Act, the Protect Our Children Act and the Effective Child Pornography Prosecution Act.

I’m embarrassed that my senator played partisan politics with important legislation to help lots of people. Collins’ claims of bipartisanship are empty words.

We can’t make real progress in this country while obstructionists such as Sen. Collins still have a job.

Vote Tom Allen in November.
