DURHAM – A 60-year-old Durham man, Gerald Gores, 278 Pinkham Brook Road, was fatally injured Saturday night when he was struck by a car in front of his home.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Kachnovich identified the driver of the car as Caitlyn Finch, 22, of Lisbon Falls. Kachnovich said Finch was driving north on the road, which is also Route 125, toward Lisbon Falls as Gores was walking across the road from a neighbor’s house to his home. Finch told Kachnovich she noticed Gores at the last minute and swerved, but was unable to stop in time.

Gores was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Durham Fire and Rescue. He died there a short while later, police said.

Officer Ryan McGee of the Lisbon Police Department, who was at the Durham bridge when the call came over the air, was the first to arrive at the scene. He rushed to the victim’s side to render first aid and seeing the gravity of Gores’ injuries, immediately shut the road down.

Neither Finch nor her husband, Andrew, 29, a passenger in her minivan, were injured, police said. Damage to her 1999 Dodge Caravan was set at $3,000

The road remained closed for about four hours. Brunswick police Lt. Bill Potter responded to assist in the reconstruction of the crash. Also assisting at the scene were Androscoggin County Sgt. Brian Smith, Lisbon police Sgt. Harry Moore and personnel from Durham Fire and Rescue.

No charges have been filed at this time. Kachnovich said he did not believe alcohol was involved. As is protocol in fatal accidents, blood tests were taken, but their results are not expected for several months, a County spokesman said.
