Portland – Richard V. Wells, 89, of 37 Woodbury Road, Auburn, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 24, at Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Poland, July 12, 1919, the son of the late Flavius E. and Doris F. Kimball Wells.

He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the engineering staff.

He married Harriet Helms, of Spokane, Wash., in 1946, and she passed away in 1950. Prior to his retirement he was employed for many years by the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll collector.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by a daughter, Calla Wells and her partner, Mary Jane Vandersluis, of Raymond; a brother, Raymond Wells and his wife, Helen, of Arkansas; nephews Stanley, Kendal and Mitchell Wells and their families; he remained close to his cousins, Dana, Larry and Craig Cook, David, Brian, Valerie and Michael Kimball, Patricia Kimball Riley, Audrey Kimball Woodbury, Bernard and Ted Kimball and their families.

He was predeceased by a brother, Philip Wells.
