I can think of many reasons why Sen. Susan Collins has overstayed her welcome representing the Maine people. Her recent radio remarks about John Edwards’ affair were uncalled for.

She mentioned how she feels sorry for the Edwards family. If Edwards had been from the Republican Party, would Sen. Collins have remained silent?

Today’s politicians are so deeply corrupted with special interests lining their pockets and benefits packages that they will say anything to get votes. Both parties need to be refined.

Republicans used to claim to be the party of small government. Under President Bush, our national debt is nearly $400 billion, which is an unmanageable burden for our children and grandchildren. Democrats, on the other hand, would like to make “welfare recipient” a career status.

Ethnic groups come into Maine and we are so compassionate that we have to act like proud Americans and welcome everyone; meanwhile, our politicians continue to cater to corporate interests.

November is the time to make changes. Let’s not vote for senior lame-duck politicians. The polls are the only place where we can make a difference. But then again, remember Florida, where the voters were somehow ridiculed.

If undecided, I say vote for the “other” that is usually left blank. I know myself, rather than voting for either party in doubt, I will continue to vote for Mr., or Mrs., “LeBlank.”
