BANGOR (AP) – A Maine man facing charges including attempted murder is expected to undergo psychological evaluations before seeking a bail hearing.

Thirty-two-year-old Ryan Witmer of Eddington is accused of using a knife to attack his estranged wife and a teacher and part-time karate instructor she was seeing on June 30 in Orrington.

Court documents indicate Witmer stabbed the teacher 11 times and then attacked his wife before stabbing himself in the chest and trying to slit his throat.

He’s charged with aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault, burglary, violation of a protective order, domestic violence stalking and assault. He pleaded not guilty during his initial court appearance Friday.
