AUBURN – Victor S. Davis, 84 of Auburn, died Aug. 26, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.
He was born in Hartford, on Dec. 11, 1923, the son of Norman and Ruth Gammon Davis. He graduated from Canton High School in 1942. He served in various Canton town offices from 1958 to 1964. At one time, he was a deputy sheriff for Oxford County. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943 and 1944.
He retired from Boise Cascade Paper Mill after more than 40 years of service. He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and most outdoor activities.
He loved his dog Misty very much. In 1946, he married Frieda Bessey Davis, who survives him in Auburn.
Other survivors are Stephen Davis and his wife, Robyn, of Prospect, Ky., Ronald Davis and his wife, Gayle, of Milton, Mass., and Randall Davis and his wife, Laura, of Smithfield; a daughter, Peggy Mcloon and her husband, Mike, of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Mike Davis, Ross Davis, Todd Davis, Jillian Davis, Zachary Davis, Tucker Davis, Hank Davis and Adrienne Davis; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Spencer Davis; his sister, Norma Campbell and brother-in-law, Sheldon Campbell; his brother, Gene of Canton; an aunt, Rachael Johnston of Montville; also many nieces and nephews.
