WEST PARIS – A local man suffered broken bones and other injuries Tuesday night when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Greenwood Road.

Police said Michael Green, 30, of West Paris, drove his Harley-Davidson off the road, crashed into a field and slid into a gravel lot at about 7 p.m. It was believed Green sailed 100 feet after dumping the bike.

He suffered a broken leg, a broken wrist and multiple cuts in the crash, which police believe was due to excessive speed.

A woman walking a dog in the area told investigators it appeared Green was driving well above the 35-mph limit when he crashed, said Oxford County Deputy Michael Halacy.

“Part of the skid marks were in the dirt and part in the grass,” said the investigator. “Speed was definitely a factor.”

Emergency crews called for LifeFlight helicopter to carry Green to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was still being evaluated hours after the wreck and was expected to be admitted to the hospital.

The crash was being investigated by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office. As part of the probe, police were reconstructing the crash and attempting to determine how fast Green was driving.

Green’s 2007 Harley was believed to be a total loss. The crash was near Penley Mill on what is sometimes referred to as Penley Road.
