I was struck with total disbelief when I saw the anti-union, anti-Allen ads being run so frequently on local television. Was I really being told that the Republicans and Sen. Susan Collins were defending unions? Surely everyone remembers the Reagan union-busting and the Republican anti-union positions of the last century. Was this a new, changed stance?

Having heard Collins and many in the Republican administration frequently call for openness, honesty, and transparency, I called Collins’ local office for clarification. The gentleman I spoke with said that neither the senator nor her campaign knew the source of the ads; that he would check into it; and that I would receive a response. I’m still waiting.

Calls to local TV stations, and information I received from the local Democratic office, plus seeing the big “Business for America” bus in Monument Square on the news provided the information I sought and never received from Sen. Collins.
