Vendors welcome

WINSLOW – Vendors are welcome at the seventh annual genealogy conference, to be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at Winslow Congregational Church, Lithgow Street, next to the Taconnett Library.

Crafters and nonprofit organizations are welcome to participate in the vendor areas, along with book sellers and genealogy-related suppliers.

Indoor tables for vendors are $15, including table and access to electricity if needed. Outdoor vendor space is free, but nothing is provided.

The event, sponsored by Silence Howard Hayden Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will include workshops on genealogy topics and American Revolution re-enactors.

Seeks mediators

AUGUSTA – The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division is recruiting new volunteer consumer complaint mediators for its spring class. Training will begin Monday, Sept. 15.

Volunteers will mediate consumer complaints over the phone or by mail, in the Attorney General’s Augusta office. The Attorney General trains mediators in consumer law and mediation techniques.

Mediators are asked to volunteer approximately six hours a week on a schedule convenient to them. During the past year the consumer mediation service recovered more than $792,000 for Maine consumers.

Theater grants

ELLSWORTH – The Maine Theater Fund of the Maine Community Foundation seeks grant proposals to support professional and community theaters in the production and presentation of live theater in Maine.

Proposals for funding will be accepted from local, regional and statewide community and professional nonprofit theaters for programmatic, capacity building, operating and capital support.

The Maine Theater Fund distributes at least $50,000 each year. In 2007, the committee awarded 12 grants ranging in size from $2,800 to $7,000.

Navy reunion

The Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association-New England Chapter will hold a reunion Sept. 12 to 14 in Burlington, Vt. The NCVA-NE members will host a social event for the crew of the USS Pueblo (AGER-2), who were held captive in North Korea for 11 months.
