BRUNSWICK – John Ater, a well-known midcoast area comedian and a regular at Portland’s Comedy Connections, will host The Theater Project’s “Yucks for Bucks” comedy benefit Saturday, Sept. 6.

The performance will feature a guest appearance by Tuck Tucker before headliner and local favorite George Hamm takes the stage.

“We’re so excited to have these guys perform at The Theater Project,” said Executive Director Wendy Poole. “We do comedy all the time here, but stand-up is a whole different thing, and we think our audiences will love it.”

Hamm is a frequent performer at Portland’s Comedy Connection. He has also performed across the United States at venues including the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the Improv in Los Angeles and the Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. He has opened for comedians Jay Mohr, Bob Marley and Kevin Nealon.

A Maine native, Tucker has played comedy venues from coast to coast. As a finalist for HBO’s “Luck 21” contest, he fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of performing on Broadway in New York City.

There will be two shows Sept. 6 – at 7 and at 9 p.m. Tickets are $24, with a percentage of proceeds going toward The Vitelli Scholarship Fund. “We are extremely committed to making our theater classes affordable to all kids and the Vitelli scholarship allows us to do that,” said Poole. “This event will help replenish the fund, which has gotten a lot of use lately.”

The Vitelli family set up a scholarship, which enables young people to take classes at The Theater Project, as a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. James Vitelli Sr.
