Fall 2008 is shaping up to be a season of favorites.

Favorite colors – pumpkin, berry shades, wine, rich greens – and favorite shapes – sleek pencil skirts, bubble hems, gently fitted tunics.

Trends that have proven popular time and again, such as metallic finishes, supple leather and animal prints, also are part of the fall fashion lineup.

Knits, from a jersey knit body-conscious dress to a chunky, oversized sweater, will be important to have in your cool-weather wardrobe. Plaid, whether it’s a cozy coat, a dress or an accessory, will be a popular choice this fall. Florals, especially the big, bold prints, are used in dresses and tops for both day and evening.

The accent will be on the waist. Some designers wanted to make sure that they showed off the waist with high-waisted skirts and pants. Many dresses, jackets and coats are belted. Tights, leggings and opaque hosiery are other favorites making a return for fall.
