MANCHESTER – Cecily Johnson Griffin, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on the Pond Road on Aug. 31, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on April 7, 1926, the daughter of Arries “Johnny” and Gladys (Mallery) Johnson. Her family moved to Livermore Falls in 1933. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1943, and the University of Maine, earning a bachelor of arts degree in English in 1947. She married David Field Griffin, her childhood sweetheart on June 23, 1947, in Augusta.
She loved spending warm summer days at her family camp on Round Pond in North Livermore with family, friends and the loons, which she adored.
Her family will dearly miss her beaming smile, twinkling eyes and warm touch. She had unwavering love, support, understanding, encouragement and faith, which she passed on to each of us. In the words of Cecily, “See you later, alligator.” We will miss you dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Wilson of Mount Vernon, her husband, David, and their son, Tom, Susan Bicknell of Bismarck, N.D., her husband, Bill, and their sons, Seth and Noah and Ann Griffin-Carey of Readfield and her daughters, Briana and Jenny, as well as Ann’s friend, Daniel Albert; her son, John of Portland and his wife, Jeanette Solak, as well Jeanette’s son, Nathaniel DeLoach and his daughter, Nora.
She reunited with her husband David during the last years of her life, bringing her great happiness and comfort.
She was predeceased by her parents, “Johnny” and Gladys; and her infant brother, Arries Mallery Johnson.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to all the workers and volunteers at HealthReach Hospice in Augusta and Dr. Kevin Kane.
