CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will present the world-renowned Celtic band The Tannahill Weavers for two concerts Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 10-11, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center.

One of Scotland’s premier traditional bands, The Tannahill Weavers’ diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs and original ballads and lullabies.

These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and recording efforts. They present a unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment and rich vocals. Their music demonstrates the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people.

Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland, and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its brand of Scottish music, from reflective ballads to foot-stomping reels and jigs.

“Scotlands Tannahill Weavers play acoustic instruments, but the atmosphere at their shows is electric. The quintet is as tight and as versatile as any band in the Celtic music revival. They can summon rock ‘n’ roll intensity or haunting introspection,” according to a review in the Boston Globe.

Both concerts will start at 7 p.m. with a preshow jam at 6:15. Audience members are encouraged to bring instruments and jam for a few minutes with the artists.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445 for reservations. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2. More information is available at www.necelticarts.com.
