WILTON – Two applications for new businesses will be brought before the Planning Board at 7 p.m. Thursday at the town office.

An application for a workout gym at 471 Route 2 East, the building in which the Printing Warehouse is also located, has been submitted by Ken Sprague and Damian Osgood. The gym, with a key membership, will be similar to the gym on Main Street in which Sprague was formerly involved, Code Enforcement Officer Paul Montague said.

A plumbing and heating contractor’s business, Northern Woods Energy, will also seek the necessary permits to operate in Wilton. The business recently moved from Farmington to East Wilton at 863 Route 2 East. A store display is located between the CareerCenter and Western Maine Community Action.

The board will also discuss wind turbine ordinance changes. There are some steep restrictions concerning setbacks in the ordinance now and there is no distinction between small personal home turbines and the larger commercial turbines, he said.

An update on shoreland zoning changes will be given during the meeting. A planned public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Town Office to review the required Department of Environmental Protection shoreland zone changes.

These are mandatory language changes in the town’s ordinance required by the state by 2009, he said.

Part of the changes, which will not be discussed until maps are received, revolves around state established critical waterfowl habitats. The changes include a 250-foot buffer around the habitat where no new development can occur. Montague does not see it as being too much of a hardship for local residents other than there might be an impact on loggers, he said.
