Veteran teams like Telstar and Jay should work things out quickly. Still, nothing can be taken for granted. Telstar lost the bulk of its offense, but Whitney Mills will be counted on to lead. Getting the ball in to the circle is crucial.

With several starters returning, Jay and Mountain Valley should be in the thick of things. The Tigers’ Liz LeBlanc is a proven leader, while the Falcons will be extremely versatile. As the only Class B team in the conference, Mountain Valley will struggle to earn a high seed for the postseason.

Livermore Falls welcomes back coach Julia Parker and should be improved. Dirigo has some holes to fill, but a fast field will be an asset. Winthrop and Lisbon have been close every year and a lot might depend on how well they do in the first two weeks of the regular season. Winthrop has a veteran lineup, but low numbers could leave a void. The offense will need to develop a scoring touch. Lisbon is thin, but a veteran defense will be counted on to hold the fort until the offense gets ironed out.

It will require a strong effort to break through in either the Class A or B divisions. With plenty of competition, a lot may depend on how soon a team develops as a unit.

Senior-laden Mt. Blue is coming off a 9-4-2 record, but graduated 12 players, including seven starters. The experience is spread throughout the field, but Johanna LaPlant and Kristen Trask could be a strong combination. Oxford Hills has return some scorers, but the midfield must control the ball and feed the front line. The defensive backs will need to be stout in front of a new goalie after veteran Aleksys Pike moved to Alaska.

Both Edward Little and Lewiston will need to develop some depth. A couple wins early on may help, but look for improvement by the second half of the season.

Six-time state champion Skowhegan, Gardiner, Cony will be tough.

Class B Leavitt reached the regional final and always has plenty of depth. Courtney Erskine is a goal scorer, and goalie Kate Capen allowed less than a goal per game. Maranacook, Belfast, Rockland and Mt. View will each be strong. Oak Hill has struggled to develop a consistent attack and the new seas.

St. Dom’s is a perennial Class C contender, and the trend should continue with Mary Lewis leading the offense. Hillary Gove must be a physical presence in the middle. Still, the Saint have set the standard by playing a wide-open style.

Sacopee Valley and North Yarmouth are playoff contenders.

In Class B, Fryeburg will strive for playoffs, while Poland and Gray-New Gloucester each look for improvement. These teams each need success early so they can build momentum.
