School is back in session. How do I know? The number of kids seen taking shortcuts through parking lots.
Parents should remind their teens about street safety. When the children were in elementary school, I’m sure parents reminded them daily – use the sidewalk; walk facing traffic; use the crosswalk; look left, right, than left again.
Many teens think the rules no longer apply. When they reach middle school and high school, they feel they are invincible. Motorists will watch out for them.
Parking spaces are for vehicles, not foot traffic, skateboards or bicycles. The travel lanes between parking spaces are just that – travel lanes. Walking there is just like walking down the middle of Main Street.
We must remind our young people to keep themselves safe.
