Sarah Palin should withdraw now as the vice presidential nominee. That would give John McCain time to make a sensible choice.

Women can have it all, but they can’t have it all at once. No woman with a working husband, minor children (one, a 4-month-old with Down’s Syndrome, another pregnant), has any business running for the vice presidency, or so serving. Arguably, Alaska voters made a mistake electing her governor.

The Republican choice is cynical, tactical and selfish. It betrays all the noble claims to being pro-family, pro-country, pro-life, pro-religion, etc.

A father can’t take a mother’s place in nurturing, especially breastfeeding – the best for development. Mr. Palin can’t breastfeed. Who will? Federal wet nurses? And who will take care of the children? Federal nannies? And what of the family’s spiritual life? Federally paid clergy?

Motherhood is an awesome responsibility. That’s why motherhood and mothers are exaulted so much.

Sen. McCain has exhibited poor judgment, and it could be disasterous for Republicans in November. If elected, Palin would be a heartbeat from the presidency (and McCain would be the nation’s oldest president).

Get real!

Inexperience aside, I don’t believe that voters will take such a reckless chance in these perilous times.

Palin should withdraw now for the good of the country and all concerned.
