BELFAST – Becca Belaire broke a deadlock with 10 minutes to play and Maggie Sabine added the eventual game-winner with 3:37 remaining to lift Oak Hill to a 3-2 girls’ soccer victory over Belfast on Saturday.
Marrissa Caskin scored the only goal of the first half to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage, but Emily Violette scored her first of two goals early in the second half to tie the game at 1-1.sam Rossignol set up Belaire’s go-ahead goal, and Becca Roberts fed Sabine for the winning goal.
Alex Donald made eight saves for Oak Hill, while Destiny Pinkham made seven stops for the Lions.
Mt. Ararat 4, Lewiston
TOPSHAM – Jaymee Wallace’s first-half goal sent Mt. Ararat to a 4-0 triumph over Lewiston in their KVAC opener.
Emily Zurcher, Randi London and Hannah Fenwick also socred for the Eagles. Lewiston goalie Katie Cobb made seven saves, while Lauren Vachon made four.
Georges Valley 4, Mtn. Valley 0
THOMASTON – Georges Valley received goals from four different players in a 4-0 triumph Saturday over Mountain Valley.
The Bucs dominated play, outshooting the Falcons, 27-2. Karis Sawyer, Margaret Hoyt, Rose Marie McGeddy and Rachel Sprague scored for Georges Valley. Brianna Roberts made 23 saves for Mountain Valley.
Buckfield 2, Greenville 2
BUCKFIELD – Ashley Hamann scored her second unassisted goal of the game midway through the second half to give Buckfield a 2-2 tie with Greenville in Class D girls’ soccer Saturday.
McKenna Peat scored both goals for Greenville, with Nikki Hamilton assisting on the second one early in the second half. Carly Carlile stopped six shots for the Bucks, while Sydney Richardson was credited with 16 saves for the Lakers.
Dirigo 5, Boothbay 1
BOOTHBAY – Team work and hustle paid off as Dirigo cruised to a 5-1 triumph over Boothbay in girls’ soccer action Saturday.
The Cougars dominated on offense as Rachel Child, Emily Chase, Jazmine Brooks, Tia Dakin and Erin Turner each tallied a goal. The Cougars led the battle in shots on goal with a margin of 45-2 over the Seahawks.
Field hockey
Brunswick 1, Oxford Hills 0
SOUTH PARIS – Ashley Paulette scored an uassisted goal in the first half as the Brunswick Dragons hung on for a 1-0 victory over Oxford Hills in a Class A field hockey game Saturday.
The Vikings outshot the Dragons, 12-3, but could not score. Brunswick goalie made 13 saves in net.
NYA 7, Poland 0
POLAND – Nicole Fuller rattled off five goals to power North Yarmouth Academy to a 7-0 blanking over Poland in field hockey action Saturday.
Fuller opened up the game with the first of her five goals within 30 seconds of the opening whistle. Lianna Hachborn contributed a pair of goals for the Panthers (1-0).
Senior goalie Dezaray DeBurra turned back 19 of the 26 shots she faced for the Knights (0-1). Sophomore Haley Pierce was strong on defense, helping DeBurra turn away several shots.
Leavitt 12, Lincoln 0
TURNER – Courtney Erskine and Krissy Ellis scored three goals each as Leavitt stung Lincoln Academy with a 12-0 decision in field hockey action Saturday.
The Hornets controlled the tempo throughout, scoring five goals in the first half before swarming in for another seven in the second stanza.
Goalie Ari Clifford came under attack for the Eagles, making 30 saves, while Kristen Capen and Briana Luce combined for a holiday in net for Leavitt.
Boys’ soccer
Georges Valley 4, Mtn. Valley 0
THOMASTON – Left striker Ketch Cowan capped the 4-0 Georges Valley victory over Mountain Valley with a slippery second half goal in MVC boys’ soccer action Saturday.
The Buccaneers (1-0) took control of the game with three goals before intermission. The wind and rain drenched fields in the second half limited any real offensive traction until Cowan’s tally.
Kyle Gauvin and Gino Salgado shared keeper duties for the Buccaneers, accounting for a combined two saves. Goalie Alec Young turned back 10 shots for the Falcons (0-1) in the loss.
