LISBON – I’lona W. Michniewich, 83, formerly of 54 Nottingham Road, Auburn, died Thursday, Sept. 4, at the LAMP Elder Care Facility in Lisbon, where she had been a resident since May.
Born in Bydgoszoz, Poland, she was the daughter of Bronnislaaus and Veronika Skrzypinski Kaminski.
On Aug. 20, 1955, she married Edwin Michniewich. Mr. Michniewich passed away on May 11, 2008. A member of the Polish American Club and the Maine Saddlebred Association and for many years, she owned and operated I’lona’s Beauty Salon on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. One of I’lona’s fondest memories was riding her Venus in Grey saddlebred horse in Madison Square Garden and winning the National Championship. Her two nieces Cynthia Sovetsky (and family) and Andrea Pierce and the caregivers of the LAMP took special care of I’lona in her time of need.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Vincent Michniewich; sister-in-law Angelina Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews.
