I work for a local company that provides services to people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.
I support neither party in the upcoming presidential election. I do not write the following as a political statement, and it is not meant to condemn any party or candidate, but only those who share the repugnant view I have recently heard repeated several times.
The statement is one where a person says that the most obvious proof that Gov. Sarah Palin is incapable of making good decisions is the fact that she “allowed that baby to come to term.”
In all of my time following politics, I have never had the misfortune to be exposed to such gross hatred and lack of human decency.
For all of the hatred spewed against President Bush by calling him Hitler, I would like to point out that the mentality behind the comment about Palin is, in fact, only one step short of Hitler, who, being a social Darwinist, believed in the wholesale eradication of that segment of society.
I can only hope that the people who are ignorant enough to spout that type of malicious hatred could have the opportunity that I, and all those who work in my profession have, to work with and experience the true wonder and joy that lies within the people who those few seem to wish would be eliminated from society through abortion.
God help us if the few who share that idea are not alone.
