BYRON – Two people were taken to a hospital Sunday night after the minivan they were in struck and killed a moose.

Driver Melissa J. Hall, 27, of Newport Avenue, South Attleboro, Mass., complained of pain, including leg pain, and passenger Rodney Hall, 34, of Oquossoc, suffered forehead cuts in the accident, according to State Trooper Paul Casey. The Halls were taken to Rumford Hospital, the trooper said.

The Halls were in stable condition early Monday morning, a hospital nursing supervisor said.

Melissa Hall didn’t see the animal, which ran into the front of the 1998 Plymouth Voyager, damaging the minivan extensively and smashing the windshield, Casey said. The vehicle was totalled, he said.

The moose, which Casey believed was a cow roughly 700 pounds, died at the scene, about 2 miles south of the Oxford and Franklin county line.
