AUBURN – Juliette N. Gosselin, 83, of Lewiston, died Sept. 6, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn following a short illness.
Julie was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Lewiston, the daughter of Emery and Imelda Chaput. Following graduation from Lewiston High School and Bliss Business School, she was the social page reporter for the Lewiston Daily Sun, where she met her future husband.
She also worked at a local insurance agency before beginning her family.
She later returned to work part-time in the office of Dr. Harvey Proulx. She married Hal Gosselin on July 20, 1946, soon after his return to Lewiston from service overseas in World War II.
Julie and Hal built a home on Fair Street in Lewiston, where they resided throughout their 50 years of marriage. Throughout her life, she generously volunteered her time to local civic and charitable organizations, including the Ladies of Charity of Sts. Peter and Paul Church (where she was an active communicant), the Patronesses of St. Mary’s Hospital and the CMMC Family Practice Center.
She was blessed with a wide circle of friends with whom she shared her many interests.
She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards (including with her weekly bridge groups), working in her flower garden, reading, knitting and traveling. To the great pleasure of her son, she was an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
Her greatest joy however, was time spent with her family, particularly during the holidays.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (including the newly arrived Molly) meant the world to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shaffer and her husband, Dennis, of Lisbon Falls; her son, Attorney Paul R. Gosselin and his wife, Joanne, of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Tania Strout and her husband, Ken, of Lisbon Falls, Katrina Marquis and her husband, Keith, of Auburn, Thomas Gosselin and his fiancé, Kristen Moustrouthis, of Old Orchard Breach and Nathan Gosselin of Lewiston; her great-grandchildren, Meighan and Molly Strout of Lisbon Falls; her sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Gerard Bussiere of Lewiston;, her sister-in-law, Georgette Gosselin of Litchfield; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Romeo and Irene Gosselin of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hal Gosselin, who died in 1998.
Julie’s family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the physicians, nurses and staff at the Hospice House and at Central Maine Medical Center for their skilled and compassionate care and support during her difficult illness.
