Lewiston – Raymond J. Cyr, 83, of Old Lisbon Road, died Saturday, Sept. 6, at C.M.M.C.

Born in Hamlin Plantation, March 30, 1925, son of the late Jean and Lucie Cyr, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was the recipient of numerous awards including the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

He was employed as a machinist at Bates Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at Sacred Heart Church, American Veterans Post 6 (Am Vets), New Gloucester, life member of Military Order of the Purple Heart and American Legion Post 22, Lewiston.

Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, fixing lawn mowers and playing bingo.

He will be remembered as the best father and grandfather, always devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Joanne E. Pelletier, whom he married Dec. 26, 1949, of Lewiston; a daughter, Noella Longtin and husband, Raymond, of Dixon, Tenn.; three sons, Gilbert Cyr and wife, Claudette, of Auburn, David Cyr and wife, Ruth, of Lewiston and Roger Cyr of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Anthony Longtin, Melissa, Evan and Rudie Cyr; two stepgrandchildren, Nathan and Elizabeth Savage; a great-grandson, Zachary Longtin; a brother, Larry Cyr and his wife, Rosalie, of Monmouth.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Cyr; two sisters, Ann Gorey and Gertrude Gorey; and four brothers, Edward, Claude, Walter and Lionel Cyr.
