I am extremely grateful to the two motorists (woman and man) who stopped to assist me in attending to my riding partner after his horrendous crash on the outer River Road in Lewiston on Aug. 24.

As a longtime bicycling enthusiast, it is difficult to convey what it is like to often deal with rude and sometimes hostile motorists. That is not always the case, though it is something that all cyclists deal with on a frequent basis.

Though I did not get their names, those Samaritans renewed my faith that not all motorists are careless when it comes to bicycles.

I also thank the members of the Lewiston Police Department and the ambulance emergency technicians who were very quick to respond to the accident scene. Their professionalism kept me calm and they ably attended to my friend’s serious injuries. He will have a long recovery, but thanks to their immediate response, he is doing well.

None of us wish to become hood ornaments. I ask motorists to please give all cyclists at least 3 feet of space, and share the road. It is the law.
