BRUNSWICK – National CineMedia and the Metropolitan Opera have partnered to bring a third season of “The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” series transmitted live in high-definition to more than 400 movie theaters, including Brunswick 10.

Operas will be expanded this year from eight to 11.

Kicking off the season Monday, Sept. 22 – and celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Met – will be the big-screen, opening night gala celebration starring soprano Renée Fleming.

Fleming will give fully staged performances of scenes from three different operas: Verdi’s “La Traviata” (Act II), Massenet’s “Manon” (Act III) and the final scene from Richard Strauss’ “Capriccio.” Tenor Ramón Vargas and baritones Thomas Hampson and Dwayne Croft co-star. Met Music Director James Levine and Marco Armiliato will conduct.

The new series will also feature live transmissions of five new productions, including one Met premiere. Each live performance, with the exception of the gala, will be followed by an evening encore presentation the second Wednesday after the live performance.

With the exception of the gala, all events are on Saturday afternoon.

The gala celebration, with English subtitles, will begin at 6 p.m. and run four hours and 30 minutes. Tickets are $22, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. For more information and to buy tickets, visit www.FathomEvents.com.
