KINGFIELD – All funds from a roast pork supper at the Kingfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 20, will be used to help support heating assistance programs in Franklin County. The dinner will be served beginning at 5 p.m. at the church.
At its August meeting the church administrative board voted to commit to raising funds to support the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund, based in Farmington, and the United Methodist Economic Ministry, operating out of its home in Salem.
The decision to participate in both programs was based on the need for fuel assistance across the county, with a degree of emphasis on the northern tier.
The high cost of heating oil and the limited assistance through the Low Income Heating Assistance Program has imposed a level of need for applicants. The same high cost has created a relatively large second category of needy. That group consists of persons or families who do not qualify for LIHEAP but whose resources are insufficient to meet their needs.
The church plans to raise funds through several activities and is asking for contributions from local individuals and businesses.
The project is in keeping with the church mission, which states, in part, the commitment to “identify and address the needs of the Kingfield community.”
