Firefighters from New Gloucester and Auburn battled a Tuesday afternoon blaze that leveled a garage and melted the vinyl siding off a home on Bryant Road. The fire broke out about 2:30 p.m. during the severe thunderstorms that moved through the region, and officials were unsure of the cause. Damage was estimated at $25,000, according to New Gloucester fire Chief Gary Sacco. The blaze was not considered suspicious, but the State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting investigators in determining the cause.
