LIVERMORE FALLS – Contestants and volunteers are still needed at the Sept. 27 Apple Pumpkin Festival at the recreation field on Foundry Road.

There will be at least two new events at the Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce-sponsored festival this year: an apple and pumpkin pie baking contest and a triathlon adventure race.

Most events will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Anyone interested in submitting homemade apple or pumpkin pies for the contest should pre-register and have their pies on site by 10 a.m. Judging will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Entry forms can be found at www.applepumpkinfestival.org.

Slices of pies entered will be sold after the judging with the proceeds to benefit the Linda Latham Memorial Scholarship Fund. Latham, of Jay, died in a car accident earlier this year.

Volunteer help is being sought for different aspects of the three-part Apple Pumpkin Adventure Race that features kayak, off-road bike and running portions.

The race starts at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the bottom of Spruce Mountain ski area in Jay.

The road to the ski area is off Route 4 in Livermore, just over the Androscoggin River bridge. Take Goding Road and then bear right on Spruce Mountain Road.

The adventure course consists of kayaking on the river, about a 3-mile off-road bike ride and about a 4-mile trail run.

Race fees are $35 per person or $35 per relay team. T-shirts will go to the first 50 participants.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three males, top three females and top two relay teams at noo n at the Apple Festival.
