LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will hold a public hearing Monday on a proposed parking and traffic ordinance that has all the amendments since 1980 combined into one document.

Amendments were made over the years, but whoever was in charge of updating the ordinance never added those changes into the document, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

Steward and tax collector Dawn Young went through minutes of selectmen’s meetings and pulled out all the approved amendments and consolidated them into one document as well as updating it with proper street names, Steward said.

Some typos were also fixed, he said.

One clarification is needed on a street name, where it says High Street and it should be Park Street, and that will be addressed by selectmen at the hearing at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at town office.

Since the ordinance was adopted on July 28, 1980, there have been 14 amendments, most made before 1988.

The parking and traffic ordinances date back to 1928 with that year’s and those of 1947, 1955 and 1960 repealed prior to adopting the 1980 document.

The new document outlines where vehicles cannot be parked as well as restrictions on traffic such as no “U” turns and direction of travel on certain streets.

Among places where no parking is allowed are: Pleasant Street, Griffin Field Road, intersection of Main and Water streets, from 41 Main St. to 127 Main St., with the exception of marked spaces, north side of Cedar, south side of Maple, Oak, Walnut, Chestnut and Birch streets, and west side of Highland Avenue.

It also outlines a seasonal parking ban between midnight and 6 a.m. from Nov. 15 to April 15 on any highway, public way, street and other public property.

It also prohibits parking within 20 feet of an intersection or junction on public roadways, except as indicated.

New “no parking” signs will need to be erected where they should be, if selectmen approve the revision, Steward said.
