LEWISTON – In response to growing needs, Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is offering three opportunities for hospice volunteer training in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties.

Volunteers are critical members of the hospice team offering needed support for patients at the end of life and their families. To be a hospice volunteer, a person needs to be nonjudgmental, warm, compassionate, and a good listener. A volunteer must also respect confidentiality and be able to provide his/her own transportation.

In Lewiston, a 27-hour training course will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 25. In Rumford and Farmington, a 27-hour training course will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m beginning Oct. 14.

Participants are asked to make a commitment of volunteering three to four hours per week for a year with AHCH. Hospice volunteers are matched with patients in or near their communities.

For more information, call and ask for Volunteer Services at 1-800-482-7412 or 777-7740.
