AUBURN – Bernice N. Parks, 88, of 85 Caron Lane, Auburn, died Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Oddfellows Rebekahs Home.
She was born in Bridgewater, Conn., on Sept. 15, 1919, the daughter of Howard and Mabel Hatch. Educated in Bridgewater schools, a graduate of New Milford High School, she went on to receive her associate of arts degree in nutrition.
She was married to Irving Parks. She was employed at Danbury Hospital and Southbury Training School for 21 years. She retired and moved to Maine in 1975, and worked at several nursing homes in the area. Her final position was as a certified nursing assistant at the Oddfellows Rebekahs Home.
She was a member of the South Lewiston Baptist Church. She was a member and chaplain of First Auburn Seniors, Robin Dow, Young at Heart, Roak Block Club, The Daughters of The American Revolution, Founders of Hartford Conn., and was a great niece of the Rev. Thomas Hooker and William Gillette of the Gillette Castle. He was an actor, who portrayed Sherlock Holmes in earlier films.
She was an avid reader and history buff. She enjoyed doing needle point, and taking long walks, traveling, gardening and was a member of the 4-H Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie L. Morrissey of Gardiner, and her husband, Patrick, and Jodi Embry of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Gordon Hatch of West Willington, Conn., and Keith Hatch of Fairfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Louise Nelson; and her son, Robert Embry.
