DIXFIELD – Marie Anne Hanson, 67, of High Street, Dixfield, a daughter, sister, wife, Godmother, stepmother, host mother, family band member, and companion, died Friday Sept. 12, at her residence, following a brief illness with cancer.
She was born in Rumford on May 21, 1941, a daughter of Urbain and Georgianna (Giasson) Arsenault.
Marie Anne graduated from St. John’s School and Stephens High School in 1959.
She was employed at Mayo’s Candy Store, Waldo Insurance Agency, McInnis Insurance Agency and Puiia Hardware.
Marie Anne was a CNA and did home care for several years. Her calling in life was to care for the poor and hungry in the Rumford area.
She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior (St. Athanasius & St. John Church,) where she sang in the choir for 30 years and was a Eucharistic minister and religious education teacher. She was also a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dixfield, and enjoyed her time in Bible study.
Marie Anne was a former president of the Ladies of St. Anne, a Girl Scout leader, and a former member of the Dixfield Grange, where she and her husband, Tim, won the Maine State Grange Talent Contest and traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, to compete in the National Grange contest.
She and husband Tim hosted foreign exchange students from Spain, Russia, France, Germany, the Czechoslovakia Republic, Japan, Peru, China and Paraguay. They also hosted students from Up with People and Catholic Convention Kids.
Marie Anne enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, camping at Roxbury Pond and Weld Pond. She loved playing music and spending time with her extended family.
Surviving are her husband of 16 years, William “Tim” Hanson; sisters, Georgianna Arsenault of South Portland, Therese Arsenault of Rumford, and Margaret Arsenault of Jay; brothers, Antoine Arsenault and wife, Kathy, of Lake George, N.Y., and Benny Arsenault and wife, Shirley, of Rumford; an aunt, Alma Howard of Rumford; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Peggy Whitney of Bangor; and a brother-in-law, Harry Hanson and wife, Ann, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Tim would like to offer a special thanks to her brothers and sisters, and Aunt Alma, as well as the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice team for the wonderful care given to Marie Anne.
