A tutoring service firm is holding sign-up days in the region this week for parents of children at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Livermore Falls Middle School in Livermore Falls, Oak Hill High School in Sabattus and Montello School in Lewiston.
3-2-1 Liftoff Learning, based in Livermore Falls, is a state approved supplemental educational services provider that provides tutoring to eligible students in 11 Maine schools, its president says.
“This is for all children on free or reduced lunch at struggling schools,” Rachel Moran of Livermore added in a news release. “The state has identified 11 schools this year.”
More than $800 in free tutoring is available to eligible students at those schools, she said.
Parents may choose the tutoring provider that best fits their child, Moran stated.
Tutoring is available in reading, math or both.
“We employ local tutors for each school I serve,” Moran said. The company is a member of the Education Industry Association. “We provide tutoring after school, before school, weekends, and summers at the school or other local places.”
Moran employs teachers and educational technicians who want to be tutors to help provide services, Moran said.
Statewide, sign ups begin Monday, Sept. 15 and all sign ups end Sept. 26.
In Rumford, parents of Mountain Valley High School students may sign up their students from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the school.
In Livermore Falls, parents of Livermore Falls Middle School students may sign up from 5-8 p.m.,Tuesday Sept.16 at the school cafeteria.
In Sabattus, parents may sign up students at the Oak Hill High School from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, for Oak Hill High School is the Teen Learning Center
In Lewiston, sign up for the Montello School is from 5-7 p.m. at the school library.
