BOSTON, Mass. – Philip J. “Phil” Hines, 61, of Beans Corner Road, New Sharon, died Monday, Sept. 15, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born in Farmington, July 7, 1947, a son of Carroll Joseph and Ethelyn (Adams) Hines and was a graduate of Anson Academy.

After graduating from high school, Phil worked in the construction business and then worked in the plumbing and oil burner repair field. He then worked at Farmington Oil Co., which later became Webber Energy, as the service manager. He then worked for ER Warren, now known as Down East Energy in Kennebunk, before he earned his master burner license and started Phil’s Heating, which he and his wife, Joan, owned and operated for more than 12 years, before illness forced his retirement in June 2005. He loved working in his business and enjoyed all of his customers.

He was a member of the New Sharon Masonic Lodge 123, the Scottish Rites of Augusta and Portland, Messalunsket Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 170, the Farmington Rotary Club, the Farmington Elks Lodge and the United Baptist Church of Madison.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, motorcycling and traveling, as well as woodworking in his shop at his home. He and his wife, Joan, enjoyed their new home on Lake Wesserunsett (Lakewood), where he was able to spend several weeks this summer.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, whom he met in 1990 and later married of New Sharon; a son, James Hines and his companion, Hillary, of Anson; stepsons, Marc B. Girard Westgate and his companion, Aerica Richards, of New Sharon and Eric B. Girard and his wife, Jennifer, of Bangor; grandchildren, Derek and Amanda Hines of Anson; stepgrandchildren, Nathan and Hillary Moores; a brother, Robert Hines and his wife, Pat, of North Anson; sisters, Mary Andrews and her husband, Odber, of Solon, Betty Dickey and her husband, Keith, of North Anson, Helen Webber and her husband, Clarence, of Madison and Nancy Morang and her husband, David, of Chelsea; cousins, Dick and Paula Hines and Jim and Angie Hines, all of Virginia, Wesley and Joanne Moody of Salem and Arnold Joy Jr. and his wife, Loretta, of New Hampshire; a close friend, Phil Webber Jr.; and his loving dog, Midnight.
