FARMINGTON – An art department faculty exhibit, Eklektikos, at the University of Maine at Farmington will open Thursday with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the UMF Art Gallery. The exhibit will show until Oct. 19.

Designer, photographer and artist Jeremy Edwards, a visiting faculty member from Paris, joins other faculty members in this “showing of diverse and energetic work.”

Edwards, known throughout Europe for his minimalist and functional furniture designs, has worked in the design industry in England, France, Italy and Sweden.

His book, “Objets Synonymes,” takes given forms and functions to produce new objects.

“People see design as something that is only produced by professionals and found in magazines, but everyone is capable of it and design is all around us,” Edwards said.

The UMF Art Gallery is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. All are welcome to attend the free public reception Thursday.
