WOODLAND (AP) – Maine police are appealing to the public for help in solving the mystery of who killed Darrel Smith of Woodland last February.

Sgt. Shawn Van Tasel of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department says Smith’s homicide is the Aroostook County Crime Stoppers Crime of the Month. Crime Stoppers is a local nonprofit organization that helps law enforcement officers solve crimes.

Smith owned and operated Smith’s Sawmill and Logging and was found dead in his workshop on Feb. 6. At this point, state police believe robbery may have been the motive. State police detectives have said burglaries of safes in the region may be linked to the crime.
