AUBURN – A woman ran over her boyfriend early Saturday after her flip-flop got caught in the gas pedal, according to a police report.

Sarah E. Couturier, 24, of Auburn was parked at about 1 a.m. in a driveway at 30 Leavitt St. but apparently her 2003 Toyota was in gear, the report said. When her boyfriend, Bret Martel, 25, was leaning into the car door, her sandal caught on the accelerator sending the car backward, injuring Martel’s legs. The car continued in reverse across Leavitt Street, hit the curb and then hit a tree. Damage was estimated at $2,500.

Martel suffered bruises and abrasions, the report said. He was discharged Saturday from Central Maine Medical Center. Couturier complained of pain to her arms, the report said.
