LEWISTON -Leo G. Roy, 83, formerly of 56 Brentwood Drive, Auburn, died Thursday, Sept. 18, at the d’Youville Pavilion Alzheimer’s Unit, where he had been a resident since February 2006.
Born in Auburn on Feb. 13, 1925, he was the son of George and Anna Flynn Roy. Educated locally, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.
On July 27, 1946, he married the former Margaret Lombard-Levasseur, and they made their home in Auburn.
He was always a hard worker, and worked a variety of jobs over the years, including as a milkman for Hood’s Dairy, and as a superintendent at Pioneer Plastics Chemical Division. He retired from Country Kitchen as a dispatcher.
He enjoyed working with his hands, and was a skilled carpenter and woodworker. His greatest joy came from taking care of his wife and family. He was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council No. 8742 in Auburn.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by five sons, Richard and wife, Karla, of Nokomis, Fla., Daniel of Turner, David and wife, Evelyn, of Turner, Shawn of Auburn, and Stacey and wife, Debbie, of Norway; three daughters, Annemarie and husband, Dan Pratt, of Windham, Kathleen Cromwell of Poland, and Shelley and husband, George Harris, of Auburn; two brothers, Raymond and wife, Marlene, of Sumner, and Bertrand and wife Mickey of Minot, a sister, Rita and husband Roger Bernier of Providence, R.I.; 15 grandchildren, Chad, Robin, Michael, Michelle, Sarah, Ashley and Mykaela Roy, Ryan, Andrea and Renee Pratt, Melissa, Marcie and Emily Cromwell, and Caidra and Alendra Harris; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of 3 East at d’Youville Pavilion for the loving care they gave Leo during his final illness.
