FARMINGTON – Yvette S. Samson, 86, a former resident of Pineau Street in Jay, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 20, at Sandy River Rehabilitation Center with her daughter, Theresa, by her side. She had been a resident there for the past three years after suffering a stroke.
She was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Augusta, the daughter of Omer and Marie Ange Labbe. She attended school in Augusta.
On June 28, 1943, she married Gerard R. Samson Sr. who passed away May 5, 2006.
Yvette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She worked for several years as a retail clerk at the J. Guy Coolidge Store, which later became Dunton’s Clothing Store.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Bear Pond Improvement Association.
Yvette enjoyed cooking, cleaning, taking care of her grandchildren and the time spent with her family at their camp on Bear Pond.
She is survived by her son, Gerard R. Samson Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Marshall, N.C.; two daughters, Linda Quade and her husband, Paul, of Huntsville, Ala., and Theresa Blais and her husband, Roger, of Jay; six grandchildren, Gerard “Jerry” Samson III, Kelly Samson, Kristy Brochu, and Peter, Alfred and Mary Blais; four great-grandchildren, Landon and Moreland Brochu, and Abigail and William Blais; her sister, Lorraine Pare and her husband, Paul, of Augusta; her brother-in-law, Bert Ayotte of Augusta, and her sister-in-law, Jackie Labbe, also of Augusta.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Gerard, Donald and Raymond Labbe; and two sisters, Jeanne Pineau and Jeannine Ayotte.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jean Antonucci and the staff at Sandy River Rehabilitation Center for treating Yvette like she was their own mother.
