LIVERMORE FALLS – An administrator presented SAD 36 directors with a proposed draft of a new districtwide bomb-threat policy on Thursday, as well as most of a comprehensive districtwide emergency management plan.

Both are required by law to be in place, high school Principal Shawn Lambert said.

The draft bomb threat policy has grown from an existing three sentences to three-and-a-half pages to represent changes in state law, Lambert said.

The new wording follows Maine School Management Association’s recommended model policy and complies with state law, he said.

The policy outlines disciplinary consequences for students’ and staff members’ for making a bomb threat. It also covers disciplinary actions for students aiding other students in making a bomb threat and failure to report one.

The policy is intertwined with a proposed SAD 36 comprehensive emergency management plan outlining steps to take during different emergencies.

The board is expected to consider it at another meeting.
