AUBURN – Robert G. Gélinas, 84, of Lewiston, died peacefully at Hospice House on Sept. 21.
He was born in Fall River, Mass., on Jan. 3, 1924, to Eugene and Rose Gélinas. He moved to Lewiston where he attended St. Peter’s School. He was in the Army and served in France and Germany during World War II. He married his sweetheart, Lucille Villeneuve, on Aug. 30, 1947, at Holy Cross Church. They lived in Holy Cross Parish for the entire 61 years of their marriage, where they raised seven children.
Bob held a variety of jobs during his lifetime. He delivered groceries as a teenager, he was a medic in the Army, he owned a gas station, he was a hand-sewer and he was a janitor at Holy Cross School. But mostly he loved being a husband, a dad and a pépre.
He is survived by the love of his life, Lucille; and six of his seven children, Roger and his wife, Cindy, of New Gloucester, Richard and his wife, Suzan, of South Portland, son-in-law Gaetan Marquis of Lewiston, Roland and his fiancée, Diane, of South Monmouth, Jeanne Nephew and her husband, Robert, of Atlanta, Ga., Gérard and his wife, Stephanie, of Lewiston and Marie Galonski and her husband, Adolph, of Durham. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Sr. Blanche Gélinas of the Sisters Of Charity of St. Hyainthe, Canada, and Cecile Gélinas of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Louise Marquis in 1995; five brothers; and five sisters.
