LEWISTON – An Andover man faces six charges after police say he assaulted a District Court employee then led police on a foot chase through downtown Lewiston Monday afternoon.
Jordan Bennett, 22, of 254 Rumford Center Road, Andover, is charged with assault, escape, two counts of refusing to submit to arrest and two counts of violating conditions of bail. He was taken into custody about 2 p.m. Monday after fleeing the District Court complex on Lisbon Street and leading police on a short foot chase.
Police Sgt. Kelly Hamel said Bennett was taken into custody by Officer Danielle Murphy. Police said Bennett assaulted a court employee during a scuffle that ensued as he was entering the court. Hamel said the court employee’s name was not available Monday night.
Hamel said Bennett was carrying marijuana on him as he entered the court, but Hamel wasn’t sure how the employee discovered it.
A final police report on the incident was unavailable Monday night.
