AUBURN – Lawrence E. “Larry” Violet, 75, of Auburn, formerly of Farmington, died at the Hospice House on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Farmington, a son of Verne and Doris (Fletcher) Violet. He graduated from Farmington High School and continued his education at Farmington State Teachers’ College, (now known as the University of Maine, Farmington), where he earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education.

He was a devoted teacher whose own love of history made his class lectures authentic and seemingly come alive. He expected 100 percent from his students, but always gave 100 percent in return.

He was always an advocate for the student population, served as a chaperone and shared his love of skiing by serving as a volunteer ski instructor at Titcomb Mountain Ski Slope in Farmington. During Larry’s teaching career, he taught school at Jay, Dixfield, SAD 9 and St. Dom’s in Lewiston. For 12 years, he was a teacher in Germany for the Department of Defense.

He enjoyed traveling, gardening, people and animals and was an avid reader. He will be remembered for his humor and quick wit, one-liners and extensive knowledge of trivia.

He leaves three children, one son, Kevin Violet and his companion, Lisa Anderson, and his son, Jason Violet and Lisa’s daughter, Lexis Anderson, all of Gray; two daughters, Lynn A. Violet of Northfield, N.H., and Beth Scott and her husband, Warren Scott, and their children, Jenn Scott and Aaron Scott, all of Farmington; and one cousin, Beverly Kiddy of Stoughton, Wis.

He was predeceased by his former spouse.
