WEST GARDINER – Coy R. Cook, 63, died peacefully in his sleep Sept. 21, at his home.

He was born in Savannah, Ga., on Jan. 26, 1945, to Charles Edward Cook and Mary Catherine Hendricks.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. Before being honorably discharged due to service related disabilities, he proudly served his country for nine years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam.

During his service, Russ worked as a heavy equipment operator, sheet metal worker, diesel mechanic instructor and as a marksmanship instructor. He was the proud recipient of three good conduct medals the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, and Pistol and Rifle Sharpshooter Badges.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; three sisters, Joyce, Eva and Helen; two brothers, Chuck and Eddie; a mother-in-law, Elaine; a father-in-law, Don; a brother-in-law, Richard; his best buddy and adopted grandfather, Dale; his “angel,” Phyllis; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Tommy.
